Successes

Here are a few products we have built that reflect our versatility and capabilities:

Super Bowl XXXIX
Vital Systems manufactures complex video electronics for our NAB customers who provide digital video processors used in television and video editing studios around the world. The television broadcast of the New England Patriots’ win at The Super Bowl XXXIX was processed using electronics Vital Systems produced for one of our customers.

Military & Aerospace
At Vital Systems we have been serving our military since the company was founded in 1986. Today, we continue to provide high reliability design techniques in developing and manufacturing military products. Some of these products must endure harsh environments like the extremes in temperature, humidity, sand, moisture, EMI, shock, and vibration. Over the years, our understanding of these factors has broadened the experience base of the company and we continue to develop, build, and deliver cutting edge electronics to the military. Vital Systems holds an immaculate record of on-time delivery in the years of working with the Department of Defense (DOD).
Vital Systems offers services to larger defense contractors like Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, and NASA. These companies find our knowledge of military requirements an asset in pooling the collective resources to produce quality product cost effectively.

UPX36 Controller Processor

In early 1990s, Vital Systems took the concept prototype the Navy had developed and turned it into a manufacturable product meeting the Navy’s stringent requirements. Vital Systems also developed a full compliment of engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation while maintaining configuration management responsibilities.
The Control Processor is an important element in the Navy’s Ship Self Defense Systems program. This rugged shipboard equipment was designed to withstand 80G shock and comply with many other military specifications. In its Operational Evaluation Testing the chassis was subjected to a battery of brutal tests and one of these tests was to validate that the chassis was able to remain intact and functional after a single 80G shocks. Not only did the chassis pass these tests but also continued function normally till signs of cracks appeared in the enclosure on the sixth blow. ______________________________________________________

CICU
The Navy tasked Vital Systems to develop a rugged chassis for shipboard application; the chassis was to be designed to meet a 120G shock along with other shipboard requirements and military specifications. Our engineers went to work designing a chassis, and delivering the first fully functional prototype in 5 months. The Operational Evaluation met all the designed specification and successfully met the requirements of the 120G tests. The Navy was very pleased with the design approach to meet the brutal shock requirement. All VME 6U cards for this chassis are produced by Vital Systems and integrated before a fully functional unit is shipped.

SVA
Vital Systems is building sophisticated communication equipment for the US Air Force. This equipment is being used in the current US Armed Forces deployment in the Middle East and else where in the world. Again this product was brought into production in record time to meet the needs of the military.

Space
Vital Systems has produced “Flight Line” products for Lockheed Martin and NASA. Engineers from these companies located in Texas made contact and took the trip to discuss the capabilities we offered. The product was built to meet MIL-STD-2000 workmanship standards, and was launched on NASA Space Shuttle. Currently deployed on the International Space Station.

GERD Capsules
Vital Systems manufactures electronics that fit in a medical capsule. The technology is employed to study acid reflux (GERD) in patients. Doctors administer the capsule orally, and the pH data is transmitted to a recorder the patient wears on the belt. The PCB assembly is .2 x .5 inches. Both sides of the assembly are populated with components and most of the parts are small 0201 devices. These parts are no bigger than the period on this screen. Our manufacturing team fine-tuned the process to reduce 0201 component attrition to within 3% and “tomb-stoned” components to less than 1 part in 7000 placed. Vital Systems successfully ran the production for couple of years delivering between 10 and 20 thousand units per month.

Medical Laboratory Equipment
One of our customers is a medical OEM, with reputable global presence in their industry. Vital Systems has been serving this customer since 1988, and today we meet all of their electronics manufacturing needs. Assisting the customer with design feedback to make their products more manufacturable and cost effective to produce.

    BGA & 0201 Specialization
Surface mount technology capability at Vital Systems is the finest available anywhere. The team specializes in populating Ball Grid Array (BGA) components on PCB assemblies: from small fine pitch to large high density BGAs, single sided PCB assemblies to double sided, from single large BGA with 1700 pins to multiple BGAs, with as many as 48 BGA on a single PCB populated on both sides. We successfully build them all.
At Vital Systems we have been building BGA on PCB assemblies for many years and currently we ship tens of thousand BGA assemblies every month. Good work promotes itself and we have new customers call from as far as Florida to have their difficult PCB assemblies built at Vital Systems.

    VCO
Vital Systems built and shipped 750,000 PCB assemblies in 5 months. These assemblies were built and tested individually, and then shipped to the integrating CM Sanmina Corporation. The process our team developed was interesting. After the surface mounted parts were populated on a PCB only .5 x .5 inches in size, we installed an RF can, and then reflowed the assembly in a single operation. The VCO was tested for frequency and power before these units were shipped. These VCOs were used in a radio device Sanmina was producing for Metrocom who had developed one the first generation wireless technology to access Internet while driving around in a car.
